Portal – Permanent art route from station to city center

Zwolle Station is the second-biggest railway hub in the Netherlands, and an intersection of generations and eras thanks to Portal, a permanent art route by Ram Katzir and artist-duo Hertog Nadler. Portal invites you to discover how closely lives in different periods are linked.

Rozenoord, World War 2 memorial

During the last month’s of World war 2, hundred forty Dutch were executed by the nazi’s near teahouse Rozenoord on the Amsteldijk. Out of hundred forty casualties, hundred names remain unknown. Katzir’s memorial site consists of a landscape of empty chairs.

Official unveiling on 4 may, 2015.

Portal

Studio Ram Katzir together with the artist duo Hertog Nadler won an international competition to design an art route in Zwolle from the new train station to the historic city center. Their project entitled Portal was selected out of 140 proposals. Portal consists of an interactive video installation, a series of underground sculptures and a meandering blue line connecting all segments. The realisation phase will start in March 2015.

Commissioned by the city of Zwolle with additional funding from Provincie Overijsel and the European Union.

KONG

Permanent installation in a a new hospital together with artists Karin van Dam, Hans van Benthem, Maria Roosen, Merijn Bolink and Geert Mul. Katzir’s playful installation KONG is a mental parkour. The official opening will be held in 2015. More details will follow.

Stay

Stay, a new public sculpture by Ram Katzir will be placed in the new park complex BSW in Leiderdorp. The park consists of a school sport hall and library. The official opening will be held on 18 january 2015.

Drawing workshops

The Bialik Rogozin School in Tel Aviv is an educational campus that serves 750+ at-risk children. The school has children and teenagers from thirty-eight countries. They are new immigrants, children of foreign workers, refugees from Darfur and Israeli Arabs. Many are from single-parent families. Bialik Rogozin provides hot meals, music and art instruction in a safe and welcoming environment. During 2014 Ram Katzir volunteered in the school and gave a series of drawing workshops to children ages 8-12.
